Rise, Champion!!

Our next club meeting is February 4, Saturday, 12 noon (sharp). It will be held at Launch Louisville, 816 East Broadway. Please enter on the Logan street side.

We are still recruiting chess athletes to join the West Louisville Chess Club to compete in the Queen City Classic, Cincinnati, Ohio, March 11, Saturday. At present we have 8 chess athletes, I am signing up 3 more today (or Friday). I also think we will have 3 more come on board in a few days. Our goal is 25 total.

Now get this about the Queen City Classic....It is at Paycor stadium. At the least you can expect 500 players. Also, some of the world's best Grandmasters will be in attendance....GM Maurice Ashley and Irina Krush. It will be an all day tournament, 8 am to 4 pm (easily). The first round starts at 8 am not arrive late! This is why some chess parents plan on going up the night before the tournament, catching a hotel or motel room, and going into the tournament fresh and arriving on time. That is what Coach Corbin plans on doing!

There will be 5 rounds. When a player scores a minimum of 3.5 out of five points they are in the running for a place trophy (1st, 2nd or 3rd). I have attended the Queen City Classic for years now (over 5). Getting a first place trophy you need to score five out of five, and even then you might still tie. This can be a very, very competitive tournament.

Now we are having a West Louisville Chess Club fundraiser on February 11, Saturday, 11 am start time at Launch Louisville, 816 East Broadway. It is our annual Health, Wealth and Wellness Fair. At that fair you can check out vendors, buy concessions, and buy raffle tickets. There will be a Tai Chi demonstration, a yoga demonstration and live music!

Now readers of this newsletter/blog will be the first to know....we will be selling one dollar raffle tickets. Bring dollar bills!! One of the prizes will be a FIFTY DOLLAR restaurant gift card.
